At first it was just the little things. The mugs you were sure you put away in the cupboard are still on the table. The door to the bathroom is open but you're sure you closed it when you'd finished cleaning.

 

You walk back irritated—the old house was so drafty and the doors were always opening. You go to pull it closed when you hear the small voice from the medicine cabinet.

 

"Gertrude!" the voice says. It's horrible squeak is like an airhorn compressed in an elephant. "Gertrude!" You pause, and then enter. "I've been waiting!" You expected a delusion, but you find a very real creature waiting just above the sink. A gremlin.

 

"Gertrude—do you accept your quest? Please say yes. The cabinet is cramped and I've been waiting for you more than an hour now—say yes!"
